Paige's Story...   We’re all looking for that burning bush; that brick to hit us in the head . . . we’re all looking for God to speak to us. Hanna had brought home some flyers from school this past fall. I would quickly scan over one, but I couldn’t decide whether they were having a food drive at school or if this was a new program for under-privileged families or what. Either way, I decided it wasn’t for me and threw all the flyers away. A couple of weeks ago, I was re-introduced to Angel Food Ministries. This time, I paid more attention. One Sunday afternoon, I was surfing the Internet and ran across a reference to Angel Food which piqued my interest and prompted me to learn more. By that evening, I had ordered my first box of food. After talking with the director of the Angel Food program at Crossroads Worship Center in Braggadocio, Candy Adams, I got excited! The excitement turned in to an email to Gary, Chris and Malinda Harris, our Outreach chair. Malinda suggested I bring information to our Sisters Circle meeting that Wednesday. After sending an email reminder to our Sisters, I got a phone call from Raye Lynn Haywood. Raye Lynn was in charge of the program and unbeknownst to me, she had invited Candy to come talk to us about Angel Food Ministries. Raye Lynn & I both got chills—maybe it was more like bruising from the bricks hitting us! It turns out Candy was unable to join us, but we went ahead and discussed the idea. The Sisters Circle felt like this would be a great project for our church and agreed that we would spearhead it and be responsible, but that we would need lots of help! Malinda Harris, as Outreach chair and Sisters Circle president, will be presenting this idea to the Administrative Council in February. We have several folks interested already. Kim Short and I have been so excited about it that we decided to go to Braggadocio this past Saturday to help them with their distribution day. We brainstormed all the way home and quite a bit since and we are so excited to bring this project to First UMC. We know we’ll need help from the church . . . which means we need help from YOU! We’ll need volunteers in all capacities: unloaders, counters, sorters, packers, sliders, people to work in the nursery for the workers, folks to provide hospitality (food and drinks) for the workers and various other things. We’ll need all ages to help, too—we can find a job for everyone! God has spoken to us . . . now we need to listen and follow through!
